Crushed Velvet Scrub Redux

Any time I break a product down and completely redo it, the plan is to make improvements.  The img_2950original version of Crushed Velvet wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t a super scrub.  It was a super product for very oily, acne-prone skin – doing double duty as a mask, then scrub.  It still is, but those with dry skin may find it useful as well.  At least as a scrub.

Added Dead Sea Mud – the mineral benefit alone is wonderful, but it is also tonifying for the skin.  This time around, we’ve added Argan oil – touted for it’s uses as a moisturizer and works with Acneic skin as well, Flax Oil (highest levels of Omega 3 fatty acid ALA among vegetable oils), vitamin-rich Avocado Oil, and Jojoba oil (closely resembles skin’s naturally occurring sebum & has fungicidal properties).

The base is still our Cream Soap – originally formulated to be a shaving soap with a low, close lather, Cream Soap has taken on new life in recent years.  The longer cream soap rests (also called the ‘Rot’), the better it gets. The cream soap used in this is 2 years old.   Cream soap is one of the more complicated soaps I’ve made.  It utilizes both Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) and Potassium Hydroxide (KOH), quite a lot of added glycerin and either added stearic acid or oils and fats naturally high in stearic acid.  Because stearic acid contributes to the creamy consistency of Cream Soap, I use both high stearic fats (stearic acid is naturally found in tallow and moreso in Grass Fed Tallow) and added stearic acid.  I won’t wear you down with further details about Cream Soap (because I’m a bit of a Soap Nerd, I think, and not everyone is always super happy to hear details that I find exciting), save it to say that this is a VERY nice scrub and I think much of that is due to the Cream Soap!

Enriched with Rhassoul Clay, French Green Clay, Activated Charcoal, Dead Sea Mud,  Apricot Seed Powder (the scrubby action), this cleanser/mask/scrub will not disappoint!

Available in 2oz jars and 4oz jars – because of the density of this product, each jar holds about 1/2 ounce more.  So the 2oz jar has 2.5 oz of scrub and the 4oz jar contains 4.55 oz of scrub.  Get yours here.
